The story begins in 1930 when Tang Chor-lai, better known as Charlie Tang, opened the original Tang’s Oriental in Bangkok, Thailand. Born into a respected Hong Kong merchant family and educated in the UK, Charlie was sent to Bangkok after World War I to expand the family business. He quickly made a name for himself by creating a restaurant that blended his Chinese heritage with the international influences he had embraced abroad. His restaurant became a favourite, known for its delicious food, warm hospitality, and its lively mix of locals and world travellers. During World War II, Tang’s Oriental also became a covert meeting place for Charlie’s daring resistance activities. A seemingly neutral gathering place for anyone seeking an exceptional dining experience – high society, expatriates, and even enemy officers – Tang’s reputation grew. Until one day at war’s end, Charlie disappeared.

Long-time business partners, Clayton Parker and Sam Roch-Perks have now stepped in to bring the spirit of Tang’s to life. Parker has over 25 years of experience developing and operating restaurants all across Asia. Roch-Perks brought the first Irish pub to Asia when he opened Delaney’s Irish Pub in Hong Kong in 1994. Now opening in Atlanta, the flagship Tang’s Oriental Restaurant & Bar will merge authentic Southeast Asian cuisine with the dynamic and communal energy of a sports bar and pub. Designed as a welcoming space for both casual dining and social gatherings, Tang’s Oriental offers a setting where guests can enjoy bold flavours, Asian draft beer, pints of Guinness, and unique cocktails, and an unforgettable time with friends and family.
